Hi Fitblitzers.

After reading some of your comments last night about my 50th birthday Florida trip i’m thinking about, i was thinking that maybe i could never do my walks each day and take photos like the one of the pond above if i lived in Florida. I thought that if it was Florida, then my pond photo above would have an American Alligator, American Black Bear, Diamondback Rattlesnake and maybe a Brown Recluse spider, as exciting as it maybe i’m wondering if Blindies like myself get eaten alive, torn apart or chased until i get tired and collapse as i simply can’t see them…Yes even a massive American Alligator, lol! 🀣 

This isn’t the only thing on my mind, lol, as i switch quickly to the Cuban sandwich i have to try and the omnifarious Floridian foods i need to try. πŸ˜‹ I want to eat the food…Not be the food, lol! 🀣 But seriously me and my lovely Wife Sarah would love for Florida to be ‘The Blind Sightseers’ next holiday (and hopefully not the last) but it’s just at the dream stage at the moment waiting to move into reality. πŸ™

I need to go and take the photo above again, as i don’t think you can see the big S shape skid chicane the path takes. I’ll go out on Monday and take another one. I labelled this audio beacon after Sarah’s eldest brother Simon, he also had Scalextric (slot cars) as a kid and played on them for hours, and when i was out showing Sarah the part and what i was thinking of calling it, she remembered that her Mum had made Simon a skid chicane for his Scalextric…So i had to call it ‘The Simon Skid Chicane’. πŸ˜€

Wow, when i stopped my walking workout after today’s figure of 8 lap (same one i walked yesterday for 5.02 miles) i was shocked to hear it was exactly 5.02 miles…Now that’s like i’m walking on rails, lol. I didn’t know i was that exact when i created the figure of 8 trail. 😲

I said yesterday that i’d take a photo of the famous start line audio beacon that has started a few of my charity walking fundraisers! πŸ’ͺ🏼 This where it all happens (well once i’ve walked there from my front door, lol), and this is where i metaphorically turn my cap around (Over the top movie) and get focused on the challenge ahead!

The Sarah Sunshine bench audio beacon…

This is my Sarah’s Sunshine Bench audio beacon.

I also said yesterday that i labelled some of my audio beacons with the names of people, and obviously i’ve taken one of my faves (not biased at all) of the ‘Sarah’s Sunshine Bench’. Sarah said “I want the sunshine bench to be named after me’, and as it’s perminately in the sunshine i always smile when my Soundscape app calls it out every day on my walk…Now that’s a living legacy, lol! β˜€οΈ

I just want to say i’m so thankful that even though i’m blind, i can go out walking through God’s beautiful creation, listen to my audio navigation Soundscape app and create beacons, have loving memories of family and friends and capture some photos for you to enjoy around the world…I don’t think i’ll ever get my head around having you guys out there to love, encourage and support me in ways i didn’t even know were possible…Thanks for being a blessing! πŸ™ πŸ˜€

Hi Fitblitzers.

Yay i’ve made it out on the trail! I managed 5.02 miles (figure of 8 loop) today and all of that fresh air, birds singing and feet pounding was great medicine for this out of tune old guy! 🀣

After posting the images on this post, i really can’t believe the difference of the camera (super detailed) and the way i see the landscape…It really is like trying to look through a bowl of pea soup, and with the sun out it’s even worse than that.

Trail Trees Audio Beacon…

Still wondering what to name the audio beacon that stops me to take this photo? Any ideas?

Whilst walking my way around the trail, i had a great idea! I thought that i could take a photo of each of the audio beacons i’ve set around the trail so you could see how beautiful it is around here. πŸ˜€

I took a few photos today but i think i should start at the beginning, lol. As you may know there are about 40 – 50 audio beacons i’ve set on the trail so far, and i listen to them all of the time with my Soundscape app and my AirPods in my ears. I look like i’m just enjoying music or an audiobook but i’m listening carefully for every direction so i don’t get damaged as much!

As i can label the audio beacons and place them anywhere i like, i’ve actually labelled a couple after people i’ve lost or know…Then as it calls out the name i take a minute to think of that person and the memories they bring up, it’s such a unusual yet lovely daily reminder! πŸ™ πŸ˜€

Yeah it’s still 5˚C this morning, so even though the sun was blitzing my eyeballs it was still freezing. But i want my chocolate flapjack this afternoon so i need to go out and walk at least 1 lap, lol!

After all of these years blogging i have finally found a speedy way of adding my photos to a post. I have mainly posted 1 or 2 photos to a post as it takes me too long to compose a post…But now i can add them quicker i can bore you with more photos each day of my trail walks! 🀣 πŸ’ͺ🏼

I also stood on the scales this morning (Weigh-in Wednesday) and i’ve lost 9 pounds since i’ve been out walking in the trails again! This now leaves me with 41 pounds to lose over the next 12 months. πŸ’ͺ🏼

It was another puffer jacket walk today as it was freezing, well 5˚C which is really cold, lol. I can’t believe it’s ‘Tuner Tuesday’ already but i’m really looking forward to the Sarah tuna stack sarnie at lunchtime. πŸ˜‹

I did my usual default lap today (3.5 miles) and i managed to snap a couple of photos for you. I’m starting to get back into the trail walks again after my holiday in Portugal…Although i’m not used to the freezing temperatures yet instead of sun burn, lol.

Shortly after taking the photo above, and as i was actually enjoying being out in the fresh air joyfully walking along i approached the crater section! The craters must be 3ft wide and scattered across the trail usually filled with water. As i approached i set my legs into suspension mode and gritted my teeth as i can’t see the floor at all (not because of my belly, lol) with my blindness. I thought i’d gently slide through them until crunch…My right foot folded inside as my outer ankle bone hit the ground! I couldn’t believe it when i stood up and there was no pain or no snapped bones especially with the extra 3.5 stone i’m carrying around. I’ve always said that i have rubber ankles from my football days when i used to roll over on them all of the time, and i’m so thankful that even at my age they haven’t seized up yet, lol! 🀣

Anyway, i’d better stop rambling on (pun intended) and check that i’m in tune as it’s ‘Tuner Tuesday’. πŸ’ͺ🏼

Wow it’s cold!! After me and my lovely Wife Sarah (The Blind Sightseers) were being roasted in the sun last week in Portugal…Coming home and going out on the trail in my puffer coat was a shock to say the least, lol! 🀣

To say i wasn’t motivated this morning to go out and freeze to death was quite an understatement! But i knew you guys would be out there waiting for me to put in some miles and take some pond photos, lol. I managed 3.5 miles today and i even walked around the side of the pond to get you a different angle. πŸ˜€

Now i can grab a coffee and stay in the warmth and edit my holiday photos ready to show you guys! β˜•

The blindman is off the side lines again…… and while God gives me the strength in my legs. I’ll use them for doing crazy fundraising challenges to help others. 

After struggling last year to complete the one million step challenge I vowed never to do another .… until now….  And as usual, I’ve gone over the top and decided to take it up a gear.

For the last 20 years, since meeting my β€˜T1D Warrior Wife Sarah’, I’ve wanted to be a β€˜Sarah’s Walking Warrior’ and raise money to help fight diabetes.

So here’s the 6th #BlindSteve fundraising challenge…

My challenge is to attempt to walk 1.7 million steps between 01 July and 30 Sept 24. This distance equates to walking from Land’s End to John O’ Groats in three months! πŸ˜¨ 

I’m doing this to support my wife and the 5 million people in the UK who live with diabetes, day in day out. Can you help me do this, by making a donation so that we can fight diabetes together.

Today’s Pond Photo…

Hi Fitblitzers.

Well i’m not sure about you, but i couldn’t get motivated to leave the house this morning! After exhausting every excuse i managed to get out on the trail and take the daily pond photo for you! πŸ˜€

Here in England we’ve had some strongg winds for a couple of days, so i was very cautious through the woods today as i thought i’d be floored and damaged by fallen trees again. I’d walked carefully expecting to be whacked at any moment by a tree across the path…Then i was, lol!

Thankfully it wasn’t a major incident, as my face was suddenly attacked by lots of leaves and branches which makes you jump out of your skin as you’re not expecting it…And as my reactions slowed me quickly i couldn’t find a way through as the branches got thicker as i realised i couldn’t get through. I pulled my face from the branches and worked my way around until i was free and on the other side, yay! I stopped and took the photo above…And it looks a lot less than i’m explaining, but in my defence i can’t see anywhere near as clear as the camera, lol! It’s an amazingly big challenge when you can’t see what you’re doing or what obstacle is in your way! πŸ’ͺ🏼 πŸ˜€

Cod Fillet FitBlitzing Fitness Friday: Dumbbells & Kettlebells! πŸ’ͺ🏼

Hi Fitblitzers.

Not only do i walk and burn my legs into the ground as i’m sure i’m getting shorter, lol…But on Friday’s me and my lovely wife Sarah have huge Cod fillets and then get out the various dumbbells and kettlebells! 😨

When you get to my age, lol (49 in a week) you may have heard the word ‘Sarcopenia’ well i think Sarah is fed up of hearing it from me, i think i use it as an excuse to eat lots of protein e.g fish, steak, chicken breasts etc…Well a man has to try, lol! 🀣

Also i think it is important as i read “Sarcopenia is the age-related progressive loss of muscle mass and strength. The main symptom of the condition is muscle weakness. Sarcopenia is a type of muscle atrophy primarily caused by the natural aging process”.

With that said, i think i’m going for a chicken breast burger tomorrow as got to keep up the daily protein, lol! πŸ’ͺ🏼 πŸ˜€

Thankful Thursday: 6.44 mile walk

Today’s Pond Photo…

Hi Fitblitzers.

Just to say this is the walk i did yesterday (Wayfaring Wednesday) but i didn’t have time to write it, so here it is.

My plan was to walk the whole (brand new) ‘Trinity Lap’ which is around 11 miles, i’ll let you know if i actually complete it, lol. I packed my backpack with my new rain mac, plenty of water and supplies as i thought i’d be out for about 4 hours in on the trail. As you know i’ve made 3 loops in 1 big lap but never walked the whole thing in one go…And i still haven’t!

I think my mind was still thinking my body was in full race condition (2 years since my ultra marathon walk) and not that i’m 3.5 stone heavier and not walked for ages, lol! I had taken the usual lovely photo of the pond and just finished the very noisy road section, when as it went beautifully quiet, peaceful with just the sound of the tweeting birds as i entered the woods again (see below) my body let me down…😨

I was walking along the new section of the ‘Trinity Lap’ when embarrassingly i suddenly was bursting for the toilet! 😨 I was still about 3 miles from home as i was on the opposite side of the loop, and it was not going away…I’ll just say that i was so thankful that somehow i made it all the way home! πŸ™ πŸ˜€

Now it’s time to read my old posts and try and figure out how i used to do this as i’ve forgotten, lol. But i’m so thankful that even though i’m blind, i can go out and attempt these things and capture some photos for you to enjoy around the world…I don’t think i’ll ever get used to have you guys out there to love, encourage and support me in ways i didn’t even know were possible…Thanks for being a blessing! πŸ™ πŸ˜€

Tuner Tuesday: Loop 1 – 3.5 miles

Hope you all had a blessed Easter? It’s ‘Tuner Tuesday’ already and i can’t believe how fast the weeks simply fly by!

I did my usual old lap today (3.5 miles) and i’ve realised it’s only 1 loop in my new 3 loop trinity lap which i’m going to attempt tomorrow, it should be over 10 miles so i’ll need your prayers again!

My stomach is rumbling as i type this, as my lovely Wife Sarah is going to make me the tuna stack sarnie with a cup of her legendary fresh coffee! β˜• It’s been 3 weeks since i’ve started back walking and hitting the trails again and i’m feeling more in tune each time i go out there. My legs are remembering the daily pounding they have to deal with and are getting back up to speed. I’m also focusing on my EADGBE and keep it in my mind which is another helpful tool to keep me going. πŸ˜€

Wayfaring Wednesday: The Big Pond

Hi Fitblitzers.

I went for a shorter 2.5 mile walk today to the big pond, to reflect on my huge victory yesterday on creating the ‘Trinity Lap’. I took a few photos of the pond for you but the photos don’t give the quiet, stillness and tweeting of the birds feel that ensconces you. πŸ˜€

I also stood on the scales this morning (Weigh-in Wednesday) and i’ve lost 7 pounds (half a stone) since i’ve been out walking in the trails again! This leaves me with 43 pounds to lose over the next 12 months. πŸ’ͺ🏼 It’s been quite a week for small victories and i’m determined to keep going no matter how hard it gets! πŸ˜€

Tuner Tuesday: Yippee the Trinity loop complete! πŸ™

Hi Fitblitzers.

First i have to say a big thankyou to you all for your prayers, you guys were on my mind loads especially when i finally walked across the cut through to link my Trinity loop…If only you could see my gratitude! πŸ˜€ The third loop in my ‘Trinity Lap’ is the biggest of the 3 loops, and it took me 3.2 miles to eventually get to the link that i failed to do yesterday. My mission was to walk all the way around to opposite side and attack the link from the back, the photo above is the left turn from the main road and my audio beacon from yesterday was beeping loudly in my ears as i was facing it. I had set my audio beacon to the one i’d set on the other side of this cut through that i couldn’t find yesterday!

I walked down the path towards my beacon and i got to this cut through (photo above). I walked left and right trying to find a way through but i just felt fences…I was just about to give up and use the ‘Be My Eyes’ app with the video call thingy, when i thought i’d have one more go. My persistence paid off when i found a gap on the right of a fence, i stepped through as the beeping in my ears was going crazy and telling me the audio beacon is about 50 feet away!! Then once i was through and found the beacon i knew exactly where i was and couldn’t believe i’d made it and completed the loop! πŸ’ͺ🏼

I couldn’t believe how close i was yesterday and how easy it would’ve been (if i could see) to just walk along the path like it was nothing. But then this feeling of joy and elation wouldn’t be happening right now! πŸ˜€ Once i’d calmed down and had a drink of water, i realised i was about 3 miles away from home, lol (told you it was a big loop) and now it was time to enjoy this lovely new trail. The loop was over 5.5 miles long which along with the other two loops which add up to 5 miles, it’s going to be over 10 miles to complete my fantastic ‘Trinity Lap’. 😲

As its ‘Tuner Tuesday’ my lovely Wife Sarah made me a much needed tuna stack sarnie with a cup of her legendary fresh coffee! β˜• It’s been 3 weeks since i’ve started back walking and hitting the trails again and i’m feeling more in tune each time i go out there. Motivational Monday: 5.7 miles! πŸ’ͺ🏼

Hi Fitblitzers.

This morning’s walk started off well as i took the photo above, the birds were tweeting, the air was fresh and i had a mission. My missing this morning was to find the third and final loop to my lap. After i completed my figure of 8 (2 loops in 1 lap) i wanted to create 3 loops inside 1 lap, a trinity lap! πŸ˜€

Once i passed the pond i started the third loop. As i had no idea what was coming in front of me, i created an audio beacon every few hundred feet, so if it got too bad i could find my way back (like dropping bread crumbs, lol). 🀣

I managed my usual slow zombie walk for over a mile until my foot went ankle deep in sludge! After a few of these i retreated and started my long walk home back the way i’d walked whilst recalculating for tomorrows attempt. I’m hoping to have my ‘Trinity Lap’ completed by Friday but i’ll need plenty of prayers! πŸ™

FitBlitzing Flapjack Friday: Figure of 8! πŸ’ͺ🏼

Hi Fitblitzers.

Yay, i’ve not only managed 5 out of 5 days again, but i finally completed my scalextric loop the loop figure of 8 lap which is 5 miles long! πŸ’ͺ🏼 I didn’t take a photo of the pond today as i didn’t walk along that part of my lap…But i did take a photo of the little bridge whilst i was out trying to put audio beacons on my last section. πŸ˜€

As you may know i always like to push my limits, and whilst i was out connecting my loops…I figured out i could make another loop to have 3 loops in 1 big lap! Now this would be cool but it requires some good eyes, lol! I got stuck in some deep mud today so i turned back around, but i was sure it was the way i needed for the 3rd loop. I’m going to go out there on Monday and try out the ‘Be My Eyes’ app for the first time and see if they can help me. I’ve never used this app before (so it’ll be my first time) but i’ve heard it’s fantastic for the blind. Have you ever heard of it? πŸ€”

Oh by the way…You may remember when i was doing my ultra trail marathon that i kept going on about the amazing chocolate flapjacks! It was the perfect fuel for my long walks but i had to stop getting them as the bakery closed…But now i’ve found the other bakery (same but not in my town) and it delivers to me!! πŸ˜‹ So the motivational quote today is from my lovely Wife Sarah, and the quote she says to me all of the time to help motivate me as she knows how much i love the flapjacks! πŸ’ͺ🏼

Thankful Thursday: Audio beacons!

Today’s Pond Photograph…

Hi Fitblitzers.

I’m giving thanks today for creating 4 more audio beacons, and that i arrived home safely without any damage or dramas! I did 4.49 miles whilst the sun was out blitzing my eyeballs so only a small headache from my walk…Which is a painful win as it could’ve been much worse! πŸ˜€

I now have 37 audio beacons (31 on my 1 lap course) as i’m trying to create my ‘Figure Of 8 Scalextric’ 5 mile lap which will help mix it up a bit. I lost all of my audio beacons when the Soundscape app was canceled…But now it’s back up and running (which i’m also thankful for) i have to create all of my beacons from scratch! I only have one more section to create to complete the figure of 8 which i’ll try and finish tomorrow! πŸ’ͺ🏼 πŸ˜€

Walking Wednesday: 4 Miles & 6 Beacons!

Hi Fitblitzers.

The photo i managed to take above is of the top bigger pond on my trail. I was adding some audio beacons when i thought i’d take this photo for you. This top pond is up some steps (or a different path) which is off my usual lap, but today i was on a mission to add more markers…Which i managed and added 6 more audio beacons to my lap for a total of 35 waypoint audio beacons! πŸ’ͺ🏼

I didn’t want to let you down either so i took a photo of the smaller stew pond as this is the one i walk past everyday! I take a daily photo for you, as i can’t see it so i hope you can enjoy the changes through the seasons as it goes from grey to green! πŸ˜€

Tuner Tuesday: A Speedy Lap (3.5 miles) πŸ˜€

Hi Fitblitzers.

Since my legs have started to get up to speed, i thought i’d try a speedy lap instead of the steady 2 laps. The grey clouds of gloom ensconced the sun which made it less headachy, and i soon found myself at the finish line, yay! Sorry still no dramas today even though i’d increased the pace! πŸ’ͺ🏼

As it’s ‘Tuner Tuesday’ Sarah made me one of her massive ‘Tuna Tower Sandwiches’ which was amazing and filled with protein, vitamins and slow carbs! πŸ˜‹

Oh yes…Enough rambling on (pun intended, lol) and time to read below and make sure i’m tuning up nicely and sticking to my health and fitness goals!! 🀣

Motivational Monday: 6 miles (2 laps) πŸ’ͺ🏼

Hi Fitblitzers.

Well on Friday i said i’d do 2 laps each day this week after managing 1 lap each day last week…And i managed my 1st day of 2 laps (6 mile) walk. It feels really good to complete the lap twice, especially now ‘m older and 50 pounds heavier! 😨

There still hasn’t been any dramas out there yet which i’m really thankful for…Maybe they’ll be more to write about once the blinding sun comes out? Either way i’ll keep you updated and hopefully make these posts more interesting for you! πŸ˜€

FitBlitzing Friday: 5 out of 5! πŸ’ͺ🏼

Hi Fitblitzers.

Yay i’ve managed to do a lap (3.5 miles) each day this week (Mon – Fri), without any dramas out in the wasteland, i mean the lovely lap, lol! 🀣 I can now give my legs a little rest over the weekend before i do 2 laps each day next week! 😨

It was overcast again out there which means my eyes are not being burned out of my sockets…Yet, but i have all of that joy to come, lol! I’m so pleased i’ve managed 5/5 days this week and that i’ve been building my lap with my soundscape audio beacons…It’s so good to be back, catching up with you guys and having often dangerous fun getting back out and trying to achieve my health and fitness goals! πŸ’ͺ🏼

I managed to add another couple of audio beacons to my Soundscape route this morning, yay! Also just before i added a beacon to tell me to stop and take the photo above, my lovely Wife Sarah called me…And as she talked she said “Awww i can hear all of those many birds tweeting, it’s beautiful’. I quite often forget just how blessed i am and how lovely this place is whilst i’m concentrating on beacons and not crashing into anything! 😲

Walking Wednesday: 50 by 50!

I know how much you’ve missed this daily shot of the pond! πŸ˜€

Hi Fitblitzers.

No rain today and i did 1 lap for a total of 3.4 miles. I also managed to stop and add a couple more audio beacons to my route i have saved on the Soundscape app. The more beacons i set around my route the better as they help me beyond belief! I now have 25 around my route and it’s growing each time i go out! πŸ’ͺ🏼

My main goal i’ve set myself is…’50 by 50′, this is to lose 50 pounds (yes i’ve really put that much on) by my 50th birthday in 13 months – April 2025! Oh and of coursee if there is a walking fundraising challenge along the way then i just might accept as it’ll give me some more focus, lol! 🀣 I know i’m getting older with every step but it’s a goal i need to smash!! πŸ’ͺ🏼

Tuner Tuesday: Tuning up Again! πŸŽΈ

Hi Fitblitzers.

Yes it’s me again…’ The Bungee Blogger’. I always seem to post and then disappear…But i’ve been disobedient for too long and i’ve really missed you guys! Blogging isn’t the only thing i’ve been neglecting either, my weight has gone up and my walking stopped over the last year…But on the plus side my guitar playing has improved, lol. But sitting in my room playing guitar has been detriment to my health…So here i am again! πŸ’ͺ🏼

I’ve started walking on my lap again through the woods and it was chucking it down with rain, i hope you can see the puddles on the trail in the photo above?! As i’m blind i use a 3D audio navigation app called ‘Soundscape’ which let’s me place audio beacons around the lap at any point, and then it beeps when i’m facing the beacon in the right direction, and it tells me how far away it is while also calling out paths, places and walking direction along the way! It’s fantastic but Microsoft had stopped doing it and removed it from the app store over the last year…But it’s back and so am i. I’ve placed 23 beacons along my lap so far and i’ll place many more as i repeat the circuit over the coming weeks, i can’t tell you how fantastic this app is and how much it helps me. πŸ’ͺ🏼

Walking Wounded Wednesday: Fallen Trees!

Hi FitBlitz Friends!. I’ve not failed if i haven’t finished fighting, lol! 🀣 It’s been ages since i’e been on here…I’ve spent too many months in the electric guitar world, playing with effects pedals etc and sitting down and not walking!! Well this morning i got back out on the trail, but after wind storms and lots of rain there appeared to be a couple of trees across my path which of course i walked straight into and scraped my shin!

After i’d found this tree with my shin, i was happy that i could climb over it and carry on. I was surprised yet again when i found another tree about half a mile down the trail!

I did eventually get to the beautiful pond that you all know well, as i take a photo of it every time i pass it, lol! 🀣 It was really good to get back out on the trail again after way too many months, even though i’d forgotten how bad my headaches are whilst concentrating and of course the hazards that i encounter…But without all of these challenges it’d be too easy and not as much fun to write about, lol!

I’ve missed you guys lots and i hope to get back commenting with you all again.

Well i’e made it through 2 weeks so far, even though it was chucking it down today and i left my cap at home, so my eyes and ears were just filling up….I’m sure the rain was trying to drown me, lol! 🀣 At least i only have 11 weeks to go! 😨

You might be surprised but i really don’t enjoy posting fundraising asks, so i’ll post it quickly and hope you don’t get too annoyed. πŸ˜€

Type 1 diabetes never gives Sarah a rest, so I don’t want to have one either during my fundraising challenge!

Hi friends…πŸ™Œ 

Today whilst i was walking around the 2 laps, i started to think about this post i was going to write and the title ‘Thankful Thursday’. So i thought i’d start listing the things i was thankful for off the top of my head. 1st i was thankful that today (after 13 days of the challenge) it was actually overcast which is fantastic for my sight and walking, 2nd i was thankful for another day with my lovely Wife Sarah, 3rd i was thankful that God holds together all things including my legs that are getting me around these 6 miles etc, 4th i was thankful for you guys…Then i thought hang on if i start listing everything it’s going to be way too long and you’ll all block me, lol! 🀣

I think your getting the idea of this post, and i hope you can find things to be thankful for, even if it’s a really challenging time or your not in the mood.

Day 13/92 Step Challenge ‘Theme…Animals’

Yay for the clouds…Well at least the first lap was better for me, until the sun blazed my brain on lap 2. Either way i managed both laps today and got my daily 6 miles in for the step challenge! πŸ’ͺ🏼

The trail was nice and quiet too, so after 11 days i still haven’t been savaged by dogs, torn flesh on thorns and stinging bushes, flattened by cyclists etc…I’m not used to not having any dramas as yet, lol! 🀣

Now it’s time to check i’m still in tune from last week, or do i just need to tweak?!

Yay i managed to get the path i walk on in the bottom of the shop for you. I hope it gives you an idea of how far away from the pond i am, lol! πŸ˜€

Hi Friends.

Oh man that was hard today! I know it’s not the great opener for motivational Monday that you’d like, lol…Although i did finally manage the 6 miles i needed for day 10 of my challenge. My eyes and brain simply got fried (not in the good way like chicken, lol) but the bad way which saps my energy, remaining sight, disorientates and also gives me a headache…I’m not trying to complain but just describe in a small way how it feels. My legs are fine and are quite strong after a sighted lifetime of football (soccer in USA), cycling and i was pretty much the only one who liked leg day in the gym…Couldn’t get me off the calf machine, lol! 🀣 Sorry what i’m trying to say is that my legs are still strong enough to get me around…It’s the mental, eyes and brain that destroys my energy and will stop me before my legs give up!

Faster Thursday: Day 6/92 Step Challenge For Diabetes UK.

Hi Fitblitzers.

As it’s ‘Faster Thursday’ (i like to make silly names up for the day, lol) i did just 1 lap (3.4 miles), but tried walking faster than i normally would. This is dangerous for me as i can’t see what’s in front of me so going faster really doesn’t help my stopping distance…It’s good to mix it up for a day as long as i don’t hit anything, lol! 🀣

When i reached the pond and took out my phone to take the photo, my voiceover screenreader told me there was a zoom level of 0.5…So i used this wide angle to take one for you (above), i was stood on my walking path and it looks miles away when i don’t zoom in as usual! 😲

Whilst speeding around the trail lap along the back straight, i thought i’d hit the brakes and take another photo for you. It’s the down hill section of the lap before the big ΒΎ mile steep hill. 😨

Workout Wednesday: Day 5/92 Step Challenge For Diabetes UK.

Hi Fitblitzers.

I missed taking a photo of the famous pond on my first lap as i could hear people around and they’d be in my shot…Little did i know when i returned on my second lap and it was all quiet, so i took out my phone to take a photo…And BOOM there was a dude in the the centre of my shot, lol! I was zoomed in as i was standing on my path but he was still quiet if i couldn’t hear him! At least it gives you something else to see than just the same old pond, lol! 🀣

I eventually managed 2 laps again and got the amount of steps needed for my challenge, so once i’d recovered i was happy i’d achieved today’s goal! πŸ’ͺ🏼 But the best part of my day is writing this post and connecting with you guys, see you tomorrow! πŸ˜€

Tuner Tuesday: Getting in tune! πŸŽΈ

Hi Fitblitzers.

Wow, i’m out of shape, lol! I walked through the beautiful local nature reserve on my one and only trail lap…I managed 2 laps which is 13,000 steps = 6 miles as it was a dress rehearsal for the One Million Step challenge that starts on Saturday 1st July. This was perfect as the challenge requires around 11,000 steps – 5.5 miles a day for 92 days! So being in a 2,000 step a day surplus should be great as if something pops up i have enough steps to finish…Well that’s the plan, the walk today nearly killed me, lol…Every pound in weight lost will help my walking during this challenge! πŸ˜€

During the walk i started thinking about my guitars and how they need tuning (random thoughts i know, lol)…But then i started to try and come up with a sort of FitBlitz acronym for a 6 string guitar in standard tuning EADGBE that will help me each day and it will stick in my head. I also started thinking how it’s vital to stay in tune so it’s not just a mess…Now apply that to my health and fitness lifestyle, wow mine is out of tune and needs tweaking! πŸ’ͺ🏼 πŸ˜€

Taken on my step challenge last year…I’m 2 stone heavier now and the t-shirt doesn’t fit…Yet, but it will!!! πŸ’ͺ🏼

Hi Fitblitzers.

Not only has it been 5 months since my computer died and left me for dead until this week…But it’s been 9 months since my 4th blindman fundraising challenge. Yes it was the step challenge for Diabetes UK over 2 months which i’d been celebrating until now…Unfortunately i fell down and put on 2 stone (28lb) during this time!! 😨

So once i’d gotten my computer sorted out so i could post and get back in fellowship with you guys, i also signed up for my 5th fundraising challenge, the ‘One Million Step’ challenge over 3 months starting 1st July 2023. I thought this would not only raise vital funds but awareness too…And as a side effect get my fitness back!! πŸ’ͺ🏼 πŸ˜€

My Plan…

As i’m 48 years old now i have a plan (not sure if i’ll pull it off) but i thought i’d try THIS challenge now, then attempt the maximum 1.7 Million steps over 3 months next year (that’s Land’s End – John o’Groats!)…And then for my 50th…I’m not sure, do you have any ideas for my big 50th charity challenge?? πŸ€”

I didn’t want to post about this challenge yet, as i thought you’d be completely fed up about hearing me doing my challenges and always asking for money! But i had my 4th donation this morning from a kind lady from the ‘One Million Step Challenge Diabetes UK’ Facebook page and i got so excited i couldn’t keep quiet any longer! πŸ˜€ AndΒ while God gives me the strength inΒ my legs…i’ll use them for doing crazyΒ fundraisingΒ challenges to help others!Β πŸ’ͺ🏼

I’ve signed up to my 5th ‘Blindman Fundraising Challenge and i’m taking part in the OneΒ Million Steps Challenge ver 3 monthsΒ (July – Sept 2023)Β and to raise money forΒ Diabetes UK. I would be soΒ grateful if you could sponsorΒ me! Diabetes UK fund criticalΒ research, which has led to life-changing discoveries – like theΒ first insulin pen andΒ programmes to put type 2Β diabetes into remission.

Thankful Thursday: The Bench

Hi FitBlitzers! πŸ˜€

Today was my second time on the trail since January and i was happy to stumble around 1 lap (3.5 miles). The sun was blazing and trying to stop me every chance it had as i think it knows i can hardly walk in the sunshine with my sight loss. But not only have i piled on the pounds (30lbs since last year…I was celebrating my fundraising challenges a little too much and for too long), but not even the sun is going to hold me back from my goals now i’m back! πŸ’ͺ🏼 πŸ˜€ I told you it was a rollercoaster of a fitness journey, lol! 🀣

As it’s ‘Thankful Thursday’ i thought i’d give some of my thanks to the halfway bench (see photo i’d taken this morning). It is located on the far side of my lap and is about the halfway point where there is a fork in the path where i’ve been lost many times, lol! 🀣 It sits right in the heart of the woods and is a fantastic place to sit and have a rest, a drink, some sandwiches and relax listening to all of the lovely sounds of the nature reserve. 😲

It feels so good being out and getting in my steps again, writing posts now i’ve found a work-around and most of all connecting with all of you guys! β€οΈπŸ˜€

Motivational Monday: I’m Back!! πŸ’ͺ🏼

Hi Fitblitzers.

I can’t believe it’s been 5 months since i’ve last posted! I’ll try and give you an abridged version of my fight to adapt and overcome to keep blogging!

In January (after my last post) my trusty 2010 iMac died for good, it was like my old friend. I was already starting to have problems with β€˜Marsedit’ which i used for posting instead of trying to navigate the WordPress website…And over these last few months since getting an old 2015 mac mini it stopped working completely. The WordPress app on my phone stopped to and moved over to something called β€˜Jetpack’, which i also had to adapt and overcome simply to just read my notifications etc with my voiceover screenreader! I use my iPhone and desktop to do different simple tasks just to post and do basic operations…But i think i’m almost there now, lol!

I’ve seriously missed you guys and hated missing your posts, comments and friendships on my blogs…But i think i have cobbled together a simple accessible way between my mac and iPhone to get back to it!! Please let me know in the comments if you are still around here?!πŸ’ͺ🏼

I also hadn’t been out on the walking trail and FitBlitzing my steps and fitness whilst i was sorting everything out..So now it’s time to sort this lazy body out too, it’s had far too long sitting back, feasting and celebrating last years monumental fund-raising challenges…It’s time to FitBlitz those extra pounds!!

FitBlitzing Friday: Week Complete! πŸ’ͺ🏼

Hi FitBlitz Friends! Wow i really didn’t want to go out this morning, i found myself using every excuse possible until i told myself to shut up, lol! I try to go out on the trail every weekday (Mon – Fri) and today would be the first time this year that i’ve made it for a full week…So i was pleased when i’d dragged myself out so i can now relax for the weekend! πŸ˜€

It was 1˚C (33.8 ˚F) and even colder now i’d had a shave too…I should make a fundraising challenge about me having a shave as it’s such a challenge, lol! But with all the right clothes on i was nice and toasty on my walk this morning. πŸ˜€

The trail was once again quiet as i think the cold is keeping everyone indoors, which is great for me as i don’t have to dodge people, dogs, runners and cyclists which is mentally draining in itself. I hope you enjoy the photos for today and you have a lovely weekend. I’m really looking forwards to my Sunday roast dinner…Awww all of that veg, meat and of course yorkshire pudding! πŸ˜‹ Do you have a meal that you are looking forwards too?

Photobombing Thursday: Yay Sunshine! β˜€οΈ

Hi FitBlitz Friends! Since yesterday’s attempt at a wide angle selfie, i’m starting to take them at different points around the trail…Don’t worry i won’t be in all of the photos, it feels a little like photobombing to me, lol! 🀣 Well at least you know that i’m actually there and not just using someone elses photos…I literally have to drag my lazy bones out in the cold so i can share my walking with you! πŸ’ͺ🏼 πŸ˜€

I was happy to know that it wasn’t freezing this morning as it was a scorching 2˚C, and the sun was out, yay! In fact the sun was proper blinding and so bright that i struggled lots on my walk today…But it also meant that my photos would look better with some sunshine injection! πŸ’ͺ🏼 πŸ˜€

I hope you’re reading this with a cup of something warm, i’m drinking some hot fresh coffee made by my lovely wife Sarah as i type this. β˜• Anyway i’ll be quiet now and let you enjoy the whopping 4 photos i’ve taken during my walk this morning. πŸ˜€

Walking Wednesday: Still Freezing! β„️

Hi FitBlitz Friends! Yeah it’s still freezing…Well it’s only -2˚C (feels like -6˚C) and i went on the trail yesterday so i can’t complain too much, lol. I thought i’d try a go out a little bit earlier to try and get some more interesting photos, but i think i went out too early as it was too dark and really didn’t help, lol, at least i’m learning more and more each day. 🀣

I finally arrived at the pond and didn’t end up in it as it’d got a little bit lighter. I’m really getting used to where i need to stand to get my 2 photos of the pond…Well it’s working at the moment as there is nobody else around, things might change when it starts to get warmer…But i like adapting to the situation at hand! πŸ’ͺ🏼 πŸ˜€

As i was walking around my lap of the trail, i was thinking about where i could take a photo that you hadn’t seen yet…Then i thought “I can’t take selfies but i can use the normal rear cameras and take a wide angle, which will give much more scope to try and fit me in the shot as i don’t know where i’m pointing”.

As i can’t see the camera at all i was pleasantly surprised when i zoomed in on my mac at home and seen me in the shot (success). Not the most flattering shot of me but this is real life as it happens, lol. At least i managed to point my googly eyes near the camera (only because i was holding it so i knew roughly where it was) which is a bonus too! 🀣
