Hi friends! Yay i managed to earn this badge for walking 209.4 miles through September…I don’t think i’d have managed it, if it wasn’t for the 500 miles Diabetes UK step challenge i’ve just completed. π¨
Now it’s the start of Q4 and i’ve had a couple of weeks full rest after my challenge so i need to get back on it and end this year back on track! πͺπΌ π

Wow i can’t believe i’ve already earned this award and it’s only day 17! I normally just sneak the badge in right at the end of the month…But with my ‘One million step challenge‘ which started 1st August, it meant i’ve nailed it already as i’ve been stomping over 10 miles a day without a rest so far! πͺπΌ π
Yay i’ve walked over 168 miles this month to earn this badge! I thought i wasn’t going to make it but i knew it would be good training for my ‘One Million Step Challenge‘ for Diabetes UK which starts tomorrow. Although it’s way short of the 250 miles a month i need to get to the 500 miles over 2 months…I really need to step it up and get a little more serious and professional about this, lol! π€£ πͺπΌ
Hi FitBlitz family! Yay, as you may be aware…I’m celebrating again for losing 6lbs in June! Also i managed to smash the 2 challenges set by my apple watch! π All of my extra focus on walking more and eating more on point has payed off. πͺπΌ
But there’s no time to slack off now…Let’s ‘Fly in July’ and annihilate July’s challenge badge, and hopefully i’ll lose another 6lbs…Ad Victorium! πͺπΌ π
June Challenges Smashed…
July’s Challenge…Let’s Do This!! πͺπΌ

Hi FitBlitz family! I just had to share one of this months goals…The June challenge badge. As i started ‘June time to prune’ i looked at the requirements for earning this badge, and it was huge so i kind of dismissed it…I’m sure these challenge badges are getting harder every month now?! Never the less i increased my walking duration and speed most days this month, and i started to see that it just may be achievable…And now here it is!! π²
Motivational Quote…
βRemember, once you set a goal, itβs all about how hard youβre willing to work, how much youβre willing to sacrifice and how badly you truly want it.β
Can you believe itβs been 2 years today, since i started on my life long health target starting with (βJune time to pruneβ) on 1st June 2020. I wanted to post this on my blogs as a milestone for me, as i like to share all of my ups and downs with you all! πͺπΌ π
Now it’s June again and i have some extra pounds to prune! I’m still a size medium (from XXL) but it’s not the easy fitting new clothes i enjoyed a year ago…So yay i have a new goal to smash already, lol! π€£
It’s great getting back to walking each day after taking a well earned rest with lots of celebrating whilst taking the whole month of May off. But now i’m back focused again on my future fundraisers, lol! π€£ I still can’t believe in these last 2 years i’ve managed an ‘Ultra Step Challenge‘ and the ‘Trail Marathon‘ along with shrinking down from size XXL to M and having to buy a new set of clothes…My mind still hasn’t caught up! π²
Talking of walking…I went out on the trail again this morning and managed my usual daily 6 miles in just over 1 hour 30 minutes. There were no dramas at all today, yay so i enjoyed it even more…But not as much as the stupendous Sarah special stack sandwich supreme i have when i get back! π
I’d just like to say a huge sorry in advance to my lovely wife Sarah…As she is probably going to hear the phrase “Caloric Deficit” again and again for the rest of the year, lol! π€£ β€οΈ
Hi all. Wow that year has passed quickly, i thought i’d only just bought my apple watch the other week, lol! π€£ Really pleased to have closed my move ring for a whole year though, and i look forwards to seeing if i can do it for another year?!

Hi friends. This is the badge i thought i’d never be achieving, as at the start of the month it said “earn this badge with an average of 89 exercise minutes a day”. Fortunately my trail marathon is next month, so March was going to be the month with the most amount of miles walked. I thought ‘you don’t eat a 50Oz steak in one go…You eat it one bite at a time’…So i just kept walking each day and finally (beyond belief) i earned my award, and there is still about a week to go!! πͺπΌ π π

Hi friends. Wow…After another donation from Canada on Friday (yes Canada, blows my mind!!), i’ve now reached over 50% of my fundraising target!! I thought i’d share this huge milestone with all of you fantastic friends on here! Thank you all so much for donating, supporting and sharing…You guys are the best!! β€οΈπͺπΌ π²
Hi friends! After a tough day today on the trail, i was extremely pleased to have a notification to say i’ve been awarded this badge! πͺπΌ
Do you guys have a fitness tracker of some sort? I’d really like to know what helps and motivates you to keep smashing your health and fitness goals?! π
Hi all. Since we couldn’t walk to the local butchers on Saturday as the storm was giving it the beans…We had to settle for some old M&S sirloin steaks from the freezer, lol! After Sarah had cut the disgusting fat off (Me and Sarah don’t like the elastic rubber stuff) we only had 6oz steaks. π They were super soft once Sarah had done her secret magic to them and i’d already baked 4 jacket potatoes yesterday (we share 1 between us per meal) which had the carbs sorted…But then Sarah did carrots, swede, garden peas, green beans, broccoli, onions, mushrooms and best of all brussels sprouts!! π² Wow i love recovering over the weekend after training Monday to Friday! πͺπΌ
I don’t have the hyperbole to tell you how tasty this meal was…And how jam packed full of protein it was. Protein is essential for keeping our hair, nails, skin, bones, cartilage and blood in good shape. Itβs an important building block for increasing muscle mass and repairing tissues, and is also needed to create hormones, enzymes and other chemicals within the human body. It also has lots of iron and other micro nutrients too…Perfect! Oh and i won’t bore you to death with just how good having 8 different vegetables are too…What nutrition packed meal from my lovely wife Sarah! I can start the training week with a huge smile now, lol! π€£ πͺπΌ
A huge thanks to my lovely wife Sarah for this amazing meal…What a way to recover after a record breaking week!! πͺπΌ
Hope you’ve had a great time so far this January, and you’re smashing your health and fitness goals too?! πͺπΌ π

Hi all. Just a quick post to let you know even the heavy rain storms and gale-force winds can’t keep me from collecting my flapjacks from the bakery, lol…Yes making sure we have the adequate amount of fuel for our long walks is really that important! πͺπΌ
After the British Gas man had been this morning to finally repair our boiler so we could have some lovely heating, i armed myself with my waterproof clothes and headed out. It was nice and cosy inside my lovely warm clothes and returned (without accident) with my supply of the amazingly tasty flapjacks! π
Let’s ‘Fitblitz’ our goals together…No matter the weather! πͺπΌ π€£
Blindman Trail Marathon Training – Week 4 – Day 4 – 6 Miles…
Hi all. After smashing my personal best walk of 16.21 miles yesterday, i went out on a slow (really hard to go slow now) sauntering pace this morning. As i was shuffling round i thought i’d use this time to take lots of photos of the trail. I don’t normally take photos on my walks as i don’t normally have time as i’m concentrating on form, speed and trying my hardest not to get lost. Also my iPhone is 4 and a half years old and i’m trying to conserve as much battery as i can just to time my long walks, and i don’t want to use it for anything else that’ll drain my battery, lol! π€£
Having said all that…I didn’t want to bore you to death with lots of images of boring trails, lol. But i have done it now anyway! π€£
Trail Marathon Photos…
It was really overcast this morning which is great for me and my sight loss, but not so good for bringing sunshine sparkle to my images.
It was a really tough walk this morning even though i was only doing 3.3 miles per hour and the 6 miles took me about 1 hour and 50 minutes. But when i did eventually stagger back home, my lovely wife Sarah was ready to take her break and made me one of her monumental fresh coffees! β π
Hope you’ve started this new month smashing your health and fitness goals too? Let’s ‘FitBlitz’ February together!! πͺπΌ π

Blindman Trail Marathon Training – Week 4 – Day 3 – 16.21 Miles…
Hi all. Yay i’ve managed to finally smash through the 16 mile marker this morning, and manage 16.21 miles, and wow was it hard! I knew i had to pull a little bit more out of my legs to beat last walking wednesday’s record of 15.85 miles…But i somehow managed it even though the blinding sun was doing it’s best to end my walk. Sorry i can’t write too much today as i’m dying here! π€£
Today’s Walking Stats…
Although it doesn’t seem like much to beat last weeks record by just under half a mile…I managed to walk a little faster and do the walk in 4 hours 15 minutes at around 3.9mph. All this was non stop walking (incredibly without a toilet break) and i’m really pleased with the pace as the sun slows me right down!
I only managed this personal best thanks to my lovely wife Sarah making me a stupendous espresso, 2 slices of toast (keep my glycogen stores up) and of course…The 8 chocolate hob nobs that rocketed me around, yay!! π€£
When i arrived home my lovely wife Sarah had made me a much bigger coffee, a cheese salad sandwich (like last week but even better) and gave me a massive hug which is exactly what i needed! π
Walking Workout Record…

Blindman Trail Marathon Training – Week 4 – Day 2 – Tough Mudder Motivation…
Hi all. I thought you’d like to look back with me on the day this blindman tackled the Tough Mudder…And survived…Just! Looking back on this post has given me some more motivation to keep smashing away at my current fundraising challenge…The Trail Marathon! πͺπΌ π
Tough Mudder
Yayβ¦..We did it!
β§From left: Adie, Vini, Me, Josie & Ashley β§
Tough Mudder 5K β Saturday 13th October 2018β¦β¦.Here Goes!
β§ From left: Adie, Me & Josie β§
β§ Me carrying Adie on the βHero Carryβ β§
It was amazing to have my friend of nearly 30 years Adie Monk join our βHard As Nailsβ team. I thought weβd sit and catch up over a coffeeβ¦.I didnβt have this in mind, lol!
Thanks John Atherton for taking another great photo. I canβt thank you and Sarah Atherton enough for giving us all these memories to cherish! π
After jogging a little, we came to thisβ¦β¦.
βAt over 2 stories high, this is one of the most impressive obstacles in the UK. It is a giant A-shaped cargo net that you and your team will have to scramble up and over it. Working together will be the only way to overcomeβ.
This is where my new trainers just hooked perfectly around the rope and it felt completely solid. Also my blindness helped me out for once as i couldnβt see how high i was, and didnβt freeze like a couple of people i heard up there!
Thenβ¦.When getting to the bottom i hear βYay, Whoop Whoop, Steve, Steve, Steveβ and the sound of the plastic clapper hands were going crazy! What a feeling to know my lovely Wife Sarah and the Crazy Clappers team were cheering me all of the way, a great feeling! π
β§ Me, Vini & Ashley bigginβ up the cheering team β§
More joggingβ¦.Adie and the team were excellent at guiding me when jogging. Moving low hanging branches, telling me of tree roots and pulling me in the right direction. Adie said βI tried running with my eyes closed for a few stepsβ¦And there is no way iβd try any of this if i couldnβt seeβ.
Thenβ¦..
βWeβve taken the 10β² Hero Walls and tilted them right at you. By removing the ability for you to climb up and over this wall, you will have to form a strategy with your team, work together and boost each other to the other sideβ.
β§ Ouch, my leg hasnβt bent that far in about 20 years, lol! β§
More Joggingβ¦..
βThis obstacle will have you crawling on the ground, pinned down by a giant cargo net. Working your way through this one will require lots of communication, teamwork and a strong willβ.
Youβve guessed itβ¦..More jogging and thenβ¦.
βThe aim of the game is to get your team up and over this stack of super-sized hay bales. There is no right or wrong way so boost, shove or yank every last team member over the other sideβ.
β§ Ashley helping Josie in a display of team work β§
Nextβ¦β¦.
βCanβt go through it, canβt go round it, youβll have to go over it. Work together to boost and shimmy your teammates up and over this 10β² Tough Mudder stapleβ.
Yep, more joggingβ¦..
βTime to get swinging. Grab on, hold tight, feel the momentum and swing yourself from ring to ring like a regular Tarzan. This obstacle will test your strength, coordination and flow. Hang in there, you got thisβ.
Really didnβt do well on this oneβ¦And i canβt really blame my sight for lack of strength, lol!
After a little more joggingβ¦β¦
βOne of the most teamwork-inducing obstacles in the Tough Mudder portfolio, this obstacle is difficult to complete alone. Youβre going to have to work together to form a human pyramid and, like its namesake, climb up and over your fellow Mudders on the way to the topβ.
As Vini was making everything look so easyβ¦..It was great to look at the photos afterwards and see it wasnβt all too easy!! πͺπΌ
AND NOWβ¦β¦MY NEMESIS!!!!
βA true Tough Mudder legend. Everest will challenge participants to run up a quarter pipe to reach the summit. Canβt do it alone? Not to worry β teammates are encouraged to hang over the top to pull their new friends up and overβ.
I knew this was going to be more difficult for me as i needed to try it and get hands on before i could calculate what exactly i needed to do. Adie & Ashley explained the processβ¦.But i knew i just had to do it before i would really knowβ¦.As running at a half pipe wall thingy when blind is going to be interesting!
Here Goes Nothingβ¦..
I took 1 step too manyβ¦.and before i knew it the wall was in my face! Ooooo i was so close to reaching the ledge.
After hitting the wall i dropped down on both knees, and as the obstacle was made of hardish tyre rubber, it simply burned and ripped the skin off both kneesβ¦.Wow that stings, lol. Time to regroup and recalculate!
βOk Steve, just do the same but with 1 step lessβ. Here i go again!
Yayβ¦.Thatβs betterβ¦..And once i had my talon trainers gripped to the ledge, i could just heave myself up. Wow i made it! πͺπΌ
β§ Ashley showing how it should be done! β§π
The team were fantastic and we all made it up. No-one was being left behind and you could just feel the team growing closer with each obstacle, it was amazing.
Now the final obstacle was overcome, it was time for a short jog to the finish line,Yay!
The Finish Line & The Headbandsβ¦β¦
WE DID ITβ¦β¦
β§ When words fail to say how thankful you are!!! β§
β§ Me, Adie & the headbands β§
β§ Adie, Vini & Me for a final photo β§
WOW WHAT A JOURNEYβ¦β¦
I canβt thank everyone enoughβ¦.
With more than a week pastβ¦.My knees are still scabbed and bruisedβ¦..But iβd like to give an Elephantine amount of thanks for everyone involved! πͺπΌ
First, Iβd like to give a stupendous amount of thanks to my lovely Wife Sarahβ¦.The amount of love and encouragement was/is mind-blowing! And the βHard As Nailsβ teamβ¦..ββmy muscles were fading but the sense of team work was overwhelming and no matter whatβ¦..We were getting over those obstaclesβ.πͺπΌ
Second, iβd like to give a monumental amount of thanks to the βCrazy Clappersβ team. βWhen iβd finished an obstacle and was about to collapseβ¦β¦Iβd hear the Cheering Team and youβd put a big grin on my face to remind me it was alright and to keep going! π
Third, iβd like to give a gargantuan amount of thanks to all of you guys for your donations to βWorld Cancer Research Fundβ and encouraging me(& the team) every step of the way! βIntention isnβt Preventionβ¦β¦And you all have helped me spread the good news with everyone so we can all be aware and empowered to start fighting the cancers we can prevent.β
Fourth, A colossal amount of thanks to John & Sarah Atherton(from the Epsom Camera Club) for giving up your Saturday and taking the amazing photos of us allβ¦.Weβve got fantastic memories of the day!
Wow…i hope you enjoyed reading and it’s inspired you in some way too?!
Hope you’ve started this new month smashing your health and fitness goals? Let’s ‘FitBlitz’ February together!! πͺπΌ π

Blindman Trail Marathon Training – Week 4 – Day 1 – 6 Miles…
Hey there…Yep i’m still walking, lol! π€£
Hi all. Wow ‘Motivational Monday’ has come around quickly once again, and i think i’ve spent the weekend thinking up every excuse possible so i don’t have to go for my walk today, lol. It really is true when they say the hardest step is getting to (and out) of the front door! After my lovely wife Sarah had demolished every excuse i could think up…I slowly dragged myself outside.
I think i need to read (and listen to) some of my older ‘Motivational Monday’ posts…I need some motivation this morning!! πͺπΌ It’s week 4 of 12 of my trail marathon training…That’s already a third of the way through! π¨
The sun was unbelievably bright this morning and my cap didn’t make things any better, so it was time to put my audiobook on and have a slow paced day! I managed 2 laps (6 miles) but it really took it out of me as always when the sun is that bright…It just blows my brains and zaps my energy…Even a chocolate hob nob could do little to save me today!! π€£
Perfect Week – All Activity Rings Closed…
Looking at the fitness app this morning i received some of the motivation i needed…I’d earned a perfect week by closing all activity rings every day for last week…I like being awarded these badges as it’s just a nice small reminder that i’m doing well and to keep pushing towards my goals! ! π€£
Hope you’ve started this new month smashing your health and fitness goals? Let’s ‘FitBlitz’ February together!! πͺπΌ π

Blindman Trail Marathon Training – Week 3 – Day 6&7 – Total: 36 Miles This Week…
The Brobdingnagian VEGETABLES…
These really are carrots…And not a pile of tree logs, lol! π€£
Hi all. As part of my 2 day rest from endless walking Monday to Friday, Sarah & i like to go shopping at our local market on Saturday to get some FAT vegetables as we both like really chunky veg. My lovely wife Sarah peels and chops them into monstrous sizes and then cooks them ready for the week. Sarah wanted to get Brussels Sprout stalks this week as they seem to last longer and are much bigger sprouts…As you may or may not notice in the image below…They are like tennis balls and tasted amazing, i’m looking forward to chomping on the rest this week, lol! π€£
I also took a photo of the carrots Sarah was preparing too, as they looked like the tree logs i was climbing during my tough mudder training…You’d think with all of these enormous carrots that i’d be able to see much better, lol! π€£
These sprouts were huge like tennis balls! π€£
It was also ‘Steak Sunday’ but we didn’t go to the local butchers this time and bought an M&S sirloin instead. Sarah cut off the fat from the steak first (we both hate it) and i weighed it just for fun…It was just over 100grams…That’s just over 900 CALORIES!! π¨ I could’ve had nearly 10 chocolate hob nobs for that, lol! π€£
After our 9oz steak each last Sunday we settled for 6oz today after Sarah hacked off the nasty fat…But as always Sarah does something magic to it and it’s so tender and soft with oodles of taste! π
I’m really happy about this week’s (week 3 of 12) training as i managed 36 training miles which is 1 more than last week…Progressing a little more each week, yay! πͺπΌ
Hope you’ve started this new month smashing your health and fitness goals? Let’s ‘FitBlitz’ February together!! πͺπΌ π

Blindman Trail Marathon Training – Week 3 – Day 5 – 6 Miles…Total: 36 Miles This Week…
Hi all. Now that was a freezing, soaking and horrific 6 miles today! The weather app only gave out light showers this morning, so i really wasn’t prepared for the absolute drenching that battered me 10 minutes into my walk. At this point there was no time to turn back as i was already soaked…So i put on my 4mph pace playlist and charged around 2 laps for 6 miles!
It wasn’t all negative though as it was like the wasteland from the video game Fallout 4. There were no dog walkers blocking my path, cyclists flying past…Actually there were no other people out at a all which was amazing for me. Once i’d left the thought of it being a radiation rain storm (Fallout 4) behind i realised there was no glare from the sun as it was all grey, no people on my trail and the track was slightly shining from all of the rain making it light up…It was perfect conditions for my sight loss. It felt really good splashing around the trail on my own with my music on and not worrying about all of the moving targets (human obstacles). π€£
Muddy Wet Trail…
Wet and muddy trail today
I only managed to take 1 photo today, i didn’t want to stand still for too long as i’d be swept away, lol! π€£
I’m really happy about this week’s (week 3 of 12) training as i managed 36 training miles which is 1 more than last week…Progressing a little more each week, yay! πͺπΌ Now it’s time for the weekend to rest and recover…By eating…Protein of course to heal my micro tears, lol! π€£

Blindman Trail Marathon Training – Week 3 – Day 4 – 6 Miles…
Hi all. Since when has the phrase “I’m only doing 2 laps (6 miles) today’ ever been a standard by me in this house, or even been uttered, lol π€£ I need to stop, get back in bed and go to sleep instead!
Wow that was hard…
I felt like i was in the movie ‘The Wrong Trousers – Wallace & Gromit’ this morning, as no matter what my instructions were to my legs…They just kept plodding on and ignoring my command to stop…My mind was writing cheques my body wouldn’t cash. When i did eventually squeek to a halt i managed to take this photo of the stew pond…
The smaller stew pond on my trail
It took me a minute to get going again as my lower legs felt like heavy blocks…Well they felt like a couple of blocks of lamb donor meat cooking on a vertical rotisserie…Hot and dripping with fat, lol! π€£
I blame my personal best walk yesterday for all of this rebellion from my legs. It’s a strange sensation to be so happy that i’d done nearly 16 miles yesterday but also i have these legs that are not behaving. The good news is that i only have another 6 miles tomorrow and then 2 days off to recover, yay! ππ»

Blindman Trail Marathon Training – Week 3 – Day 3 – 15.85 Miles…
Hi all. I can’t tell you how happy i am to have made it around 6 laps (15.85 miles) today. This is a life long personal record for non stop walking for me…Yet i’m so glad it’s over, lol! π€£
Beta Blockers & Bendroflumethiazide…
I was a little worried about today’s attempt as not only do i have to fight ‘Beta Blocker’ medication but also ‘Bendroflumethiazide’ too. This is a diuretic which makes you want to pee to help lower blood pressure…But doesn’t help when you want to go for a long walk through the woods, lol! π€£ Sorry to talk about this but i still can’t believe i made it for 15.85 miles for 4 hours 13 minutes non stop without needing to pee…Another victory for me and is just one more obstacle on this epic challenge! πͺπΌ
All of this made for a lot of calculations and i was pleased that it all went to plan…Starting with my lovely wife Sarah making me a fantastic espresso (not much liquid) pre walk with a couple of dry slices of 7 seed wholemeal toast (Elwood Blues style). I also carried some water, lucozade sport and my rocket fuel known as chocolate hob nobs!
My walk was really tough, the sun was unbelievably bright and yet i still managed to drag myself around with crazy determination…And 7 chocolate hob nobs, yay!! π€£
When i arrived home my lovely wife Sarah had made me a much bigger coffee, a cheese salad sandwich and gave me a massive hug which is exactly what i needed…Once i’d sat down, lol! π€£
Also i was crowned with the ‘New Workout Record’ and ‘New Exercise Record’ award badges for almost killing myself today, i’d been after these for ages and i’m so pleased i got them…Fantastic!
Walking Workout Record…
New Exercise Record…
Hope you’ve started this new month smashing your health and fitness goals too? Let’s ‘FitBlitz’ February together!! πͺπΌ π

Blindman Trail Marathon Training – Week 3 – Day 2 – 6 Miles…
Hi all. I decided to do today’s 6 miles at a faster pace of 4 miles per hour, this is apparently ‘Speed Walking’ but only just, lol. π€£ It certainly felt like it to me, as being blind this feels like warp speed…I’m just glad i didn’t hit anything!
Walking at this pace helps improve fitness, endurance and strengthens legs and abdominal muscles…Who doesn’t need that, lol! π€£
When i arrived home i heard an extra bing from my apple watch to say i’d won yet another award. Although it wasn’t much of a challenge this time, as i only had to complete a 20 minute walk and had 2 weeks to do it (my walk today was a 90 minute one)…But it still feels good to get another award for all of my efforts and muscle soreness! π€£

Blindman Trail Marathon Training – Week 3 – Day 1…
Hi all, After spending all morning and most of the afternoon with Sarah up in London at the diabetic eye hospital…Just checking up on the not so good laser treatment they did in December (don’t get me started), there isn’t enough hours of daylight for me to get some mileage done today…But i do have a 6 mile walk tomorrow, Thurs & Friday…And a personal best 15 miles on Wednesday if i can manage it which should help put the miles back up this week. π€£
But as today is ‘Motivational Monday’ i’d better give a little something to help motivate you, lol…So here are my January stats and a couple of badges/awards my fitness app sounded to tell me i’d achieved them over the weekend!! πDo you have a fitness tracker etc to help you? I’d love to know if you do and what you do to stay motivated and keep smashing your goals??!!
January’s Stats…

Hi all. After walking to the local butchers yesterday and getting 2 9oz sirloin steaks, my lovely wife Sarah prepared them and did her secret, special and tasty steak lunch with potatoes, 7 vegetables and her super secret mushroom sauce! Sorry i can’t get her to release any information on her secret recipes, lol! π€£
It also has lots of iron and other micro nutrients too…Perfect! πͺπΌ
A huge thanks to my lovely wife Sarah for this amazing meal!
Hope you’ve had a great time so far this January, and you’re smashing your health and fitness goals too?! πͺπΌ π

Hi all, after yesterday’s trail closure setback i was a little hesitant to venture out this morning…Well as i held a hot fresh coffee (made by my lovely wife Sarah), it was 1ΛC and i didn’t know if the trail would be open again, these were just some of the reasons i didn’t want to go out again this morning, lol! π€£
When i did finally drag my lazy self out onto the trail…Yes you’ve guessed it…The dreaded barrier was still there!! π¨
I turned around again thinking i could do the trail backwards until i reach the other side of this barrier, then turn around and come back to get my mileage up for the day. Well i thought it sounded like a good idea until…The sun came out really bright with a nasty glare and i simply couldn’t stay on the path, as i didn’t know the route as well going this way round…My auto pilot couldn’t kick in as it only knows the other way now.
I texted Sarah (she’s so caring she likes to stay up to date with my progress to see if i’m ok) to say i was coming home again like yesterday as i walked home crestfallen. As i stepped inside Sarah gave me a big hug as she knew how dejected i’d feel and said “Would you like to go to the bakers at lunchtime and get some chocolate flapjacks as you have none left?”. Wow how amazing is my wife! β€οΈ
The Flapjack…
Image taken from Cracks Bakery on Ubereats
It takes just over 2 miles to walk to the bakery and back so this would help my walking for the day…And wow it’s so worth it for their fantastic flapjacks! I can’t tell you just how nice these square delicious delights are…I use them to fuel my walking (along with chocolate hob nobs) and wow what a motivator it is when walking through woods eating and burning off at the same time this stupendous treat…I’m really starting to like all of this walking now, lol! π€£
Awww i’m getting hungry whilst writing about this!!
Hope you’ve had a great time so far this January, and you’re smashing your health and fitness goals too?! πͺπΌ π

Hi all. After yesterday’s 13.5 miles my legs were still a little sore, so i wanted to just do a normal 6 miles today but at a really slow stroll to take care of my legs microtears. I was keeping a really slow pace (it’s really hard not to speed up) and i was walking around the first quarter of my route when…
I bumped straight into the road block (well path, lol) as i don’t notice anything is different until my nose is on it…But when i do i can stop very quickly…Thankfully, lol. I stopped for a moment and thought how i could get past it without damaging anything, then when i was satisfied that i just had to turn back and go home, i did just that…And then…
How on earth did this barrier get here i thought as i stopped once again. I’d only just walked past this way and it was completely clear…And now i’m trapped between both barriers like an animal caught in a trap! I then realised i had to try and get around this one or i’d be stuck here forever…So after feeling around the barrier i managed to climb through (somewhat clumsily) and then resigned myself for a short walk today. My escapade did add up to nearly 2 miles, and now i’ll just top up my protein and take care of my legs until tomorrow…I just hope this barrier won’t be there!! β€οΈ

Hi all. Wow that was hard…But i managed 5laps non stop in 3 hours 45minutes…That’s 13.5 miles which is just over a half marathon!! Yay i’m happy…Well now it’s over anyway, lol! π€£
I bought a SIS (science in sport) energy gel for the first time last Saturday to try on my walks, it was orange flavour and was very tasty…It tasted like a orange lucozade but with a viscosity of thick custard…MMMM perfect for me as i love custard! I also had my fave – chocolate hob nobs with me too as they are simply delicious and work really well for me. I love all of this walking as i can eat and burn off my fave biscuits, cake and gels as i’m going round the laps…Win win, lol! π€£
When i eventually arrived home i was greeted with another fresh coffee and also a cheese and salad sandwich by my lovely wife Sarah…Wow how amazing is she?! β€οΈ
Well 5 laps (13.5 miles) is the longest walk i need to do in January, then it’s going to be 6 laps in February! π°

Hi all. I don’t know if it was my beta blockers crushing my adrenal glands to the point of feeling comatose…Or the -1ΛC freezing tempurature that was making me feel like staying in bed…Or am i just making excuses for not wanting to do another 6 miles today!
I did eventually ‘man up’ and drag myself out there, and once i did i started to feel better…Well after a few miles anyway once i’d warmed up, lol!
I finished my 6 miles in 1hour 34mins and was totally ready for my lovely warm fresh coffee made by my lovely wife Sarah. πͺπΌ π
As it’s WEEK 2, DAY 2 of my 12 week trail marathon training plan, i’ll be increasing tomorrows walk to 14 miles from 12 miles last wee! I hope i feel much more lively tomorrow morning…I’m really not looking forwards to 5 laps in in the freezing cold!

Hi all. Yay it’s a blistering 1ΛC this morning, that’s almost tropical temperatures, lol! π€£ It was also cloudy which is perfect conditions for me as there is no blinding (pun intended) sun to slow me right down…And it didn’t. I did the 6 miles and was 10 minutes faster getting home to my lovely coffee freshly made by my stupendous wife Sarah!
It was eerily quiet on the trail this morning so not too many people to crash into! I hope it doesn’t mean all of the “New Year Resolutioners” have quit already?! Don’t get me started on how health and fitness is for life…Not something you start and stop Yoyo etc…Sorry rant over, lol! π€£
And Then…A Donation…!
I was about 5.5 miles into my walk when the happy muppets theme tune started playing over my audiobook. I thought “No way it can’t be a donation” as i grabbed my phone as the voiceover reader told me it was a donation!! That’s 15 amazingly kind supporters who’ve helped me to get nearly half way to my target of Β£1,000…That’s just simply mind blowing for me…And it gave me such a lift and a bounce in my step as i rushed home to tell Sarah! πͺπΌ π

Hi all. i really didn’t want to let go o my lovely warm coffee this morning after checking the weather app…It said it was -2ΛC but feels like -5ΛC! π¨ I dragged myself towards the front door wearing my puffer jacket and bobble hat…My ears were not going to freeze off today, lol! π€£ I managed the 6 freezing miles today which made a total of 35 training miles this week which was my goal of this 3 month marathon training plan!!! π
More uphill on my trail marathon route!
I was out for around 1h 40mins and averaged 3.5 mph. This pace is good for me and also enables me to take a few photos on route, so you can hopefully enjoy some of this beautiful scenery too! π² π
More bends on my trail marathon route.
Oh i forgot to say…When i arrived home i found that i’d reached my exercise goal for the January badge award on my apple watch….This was a lovely end of my walking week and i’ll totally enjoy my rest and recovery for the next 2 days, before i do it all again next week! πͺπΌ π

The stew pond in the freezing frost on my trail marathon route!
Hi all. After checking the weather app yesterday it said there was a cold snap moving in until Sunday…It wasn’t joking, lol! π€£ My lovely wife Sarah had made me another one of her fresh coffees and a slice of wholemeal toast with Grenade chocolate spread to fuel me on my journey…Mmmmmm! π I knew i had 11 miles (4 laps of my trail marathon route) to complete today and i really didn’t want to go out…But i did and i nailed it and feel much better now i’ve done it! πͺπΌ π
I was out for a little over 3 hours and didn’t have any dramas this time, only the amazingly bright sun again which melted my brains (drained so much of my mental strength just trying to figure out where i was going). Looking forwards to tomorrow as i only have to do 6 miles again! πͺπΌ π

Hi all. Wow it’s 0ΛC again this morning and i really wished i’d done a summer trail marathon, lol…But where is the challenge in that! π€£After a tasty slice of wholemeal toast with Grenade chocolate spread on top and a fantastic warm coffee…I managed to do another 6 miles again today, yay! I won’t be laughing for long though as i’ve got a 12 mile one to do tomorrow! π¨
Hope you have had a great time so far this year and you are either starting to set goals? Or you’re already smashing them?! πͺπΌ π
βYou do not rise to the occasion, you simply fall back to your level of training.β
Hi all. “Awww that’s better” i say whilst drinking a soothing hot fresh coffee made by my lovely wife Sarah. Even though it was -1ΛC, white and frosty ground which was also slippy and blazingly bright sunshine burning my eyes…I still somehow managed to drag myself out of the front door and do my 6 miles today! πͺπΌ π
I have 2 hats to choose from when i go out – A baseball cap with a nice long peak to stop the incredible sun, or a beanie hat that keeps my ears and head warm. I chose the baseball cap today as i needed to stop some of that intense glare…But my ears got frozen off! π¨ Which one would you have chosen? π€
Reading the messages you guys have written on my fundraising page always inspires and motivates me…And having to write one of these blog posts each time i go out keeps me accountable too, lol! π€£ So a huge thank you to you guys! πͺπΌ π

βYou do not rise to the occasion, you simply fall back to your level of training.β
Hi all. I hope the photo above (taken this morning) shows just how muddy this tiny section of my trail marathon lap really was?! As i was slopping through the mud i heard that loud popping sound, whilst at the same time feeling my shoe being ripped off from some monster underneath the mud!! π¨ Thankfully i was wearing my INOV8 X-Talen 190 trail shoes (Sarah bought them 4 years ago for the Tough Mudder) which fit like a glove and didn’t get ripped off…Phew! Otherwise it would have been a very sloppy, freezing and different outcome to my walk today. Just thought i’d share this with you guys…There’s always drama when this blindman decides to go out walking, lol! π€£
Hope you’re having a great time so far this year and you are either starting to set goals? Or you’re already smashing them?! Please just keep going even when you really don’t want too! πͺπΌ π

Taken a couple of months ago and not this morning as was too foggy and freezing!
Hi all. Wow that was a hard 6 mile walk! π¨ It was 0ΛC, really foggy and i simply didn’t want to go out this morning…Not the best attitude to start the new year, lol! π€£ Once i was out though, it was business as usual and i was totally fine! Just goes to show it doesn’t pay to be mardy…And i even enjoyed it once i was out in the fresh air and moving! So pleased to have done another daily 6 miles, and also pleased i’m back and having a lovely warm coffee too! β π

I have only 14 weeks until my trail marathon so i need to snap into serious training mode! I can think of no better time or charity to make my fundraising in memory wish come true and I can finally add my mums name to the MS Society fight to stop MS. πͺπΌ
I know Iβll be stretching myself past my limits for this challenge and so your encouragement and support would really help me to keep my training on track. Any donation you can spare would build my morale and endurance so I can smash this and reach my Β£1,000 goal to make my mum proud.
Together we can be a force for change and BEAT MS

Story…
Hi, I’ve chosen to raise funds for MS Society and Iβd love everyone who kindly decides to support me and this amazing charity, to take a moment to remember my lovely Mum Valerie!
She spent so much of her too short life giving to me and my siblings before MS took her independence and eventually her life. This is why Iβve decided to give something positive back. I want her name and face to join the fight so that she can live on through the tireless work the MS Society is doing to find treatments that will stop MS for good. πͺπΌ
My beautiful mum passed away from progressive MS, after a courageous and tiring 14 year battle, in July 2000.
As you may know Iβve been registered blind since I was 25. My sight loss happened in the same month my mum finally lost her life and missing her added misery to my own struggle to come to terms with the isolation and insecurities of managing my new life as a blind man.
And soβ¦β¦.
My Challengeβ¦Sunday 24th April 2022
I originally planned to take part in an MS officially organised event but quickly realised that with my sight loss walking an unknown route amongst so many people would create too much external stimuli on my senses and be too confusing for me to manage without serious injury.
I was worried I wouldnβt be able to do the challenge at all but Iβve finally found a safe(ish) trail about 2.5 miles long, in the woods and past a lake near my home. I am hoping this will work well as my walking route, (Iβve now learned it enough to be able to follow it without guided help). I think this trail will work really well for me to do my trail marathon challenge β¦ if I can manage to make my way safely around this uneven, hilly, rough terrain about 11 times! π°
Iβve begun to realise, as I write about this challenge during the start of my training, that Iβve only managed 2 laps each time so far, after which I collapse, needing water and food, lol! I have no idea how Iβm going to continue for 11 laps non-stop but Iβve got seven more months to build up my strength and enduranceβ¦ I hope. π
Itβs slowly dawning on me that this challenge is going to include around 8 hours non-stop blind walkingβ¦ Ouch that’s going to hurt and take a lot of concentration, mental effort, strength, energy and discipline. And so before I get time to change my mind, Iβve decided to create aΒ JustGiving fundraising pageΒ and Iβve notified the MS Society…so no backing out now π€£.
Please help me complete what feels like an impossible challenge in memory of my wonderful mumβ¦ because Together we are strong enough to beat MS. πͺπΌ
You can follow my training over the next 7 months on myΒ Fitblitz blogΒ and I will use my apple watch to count the steps, miles and elevation etc of the challenge, uploading the screenshots to let you know of my adventures and celebrate with me if I finish, lol! π Β
